The Charente Maritime is a department which spreads out along the Atlantic Ocean.
Its beaches are the first thing we notice, but the landscapes are very varied: salt marshes, vineyards, plains for cereals, coastline of Charente,... Its cities have a lot of charm (Saintes, Pons, Rochefort, La Rochelle, ....), without forgetting the coastal cities (Royan, Fouras, ....) nor its islands (Oléron, Ré, Madame,...).

Meschers and its beaches (24 Km)

The Plage des Nonnes is the closest beach to our location
This beautiful sandy area is located below the cliffs and the homes.
In front of it, the other side of the Gironde estuary is on sight.
This supervised beach has many activities to offer (children's clubs, sailing club and other nautical activities, beach bars...): everyone will have fun in complete safety.
You have four other beaches available, all as typical and relaxing.

Saintes, a Gallo-Roman adventure !!! (17km)

On the quiet banks of the Charente, in the heart of the Roman Saintonge, Saintes is an exceptional historical city full of history and remarkable monuments.
Founded by the Romans, "Mediolanum Santonum" was the capital of Aquitaine in the first century.
From this prosperity, it preserves the Arch of Germanicus, an amphitheater (the best preserved on the Atlantic coast), thermal baths and an aqueduct.
The archaeological museum presents elements of ancient civil and religious monuments, as well as a great deal objects found during excavations including a parade chariot from the first century.

Fort Boyard

Planned since the construction of Rochefort in the 17th century, Fort Boyard will rise above the waves with great difficulty, after a construction site with many ups and downs that will take a good part of the 19th century.
Too late to fulfill the mission that had been given to it: to defend the roadstead of Rochefort against the English.
In 1967, it was used as a backdrop at the end of the movie « Les aventuriers » and in 1981 for a TV game named « La chasse aux trésors » (treasure hunt) and then became the basis for the game « les clés de Fort Boyard » (the keys to Fort Boyard).

Royan (32km)

The most famous seaside resort of Charente Maritime, located at the exit of the Gironde estuary, Royan is a stunning place known for its fine sandy beaches and its generous sunshine.
The city has many other assets, in particular the quality and variety of its architecture with its « Belle Epoque » villas and its 1950s urbanism unique in Europe.
Royan is a resort with a range of sports and cultural activities for all generations, a thalasso and a casino that will make you spend pleasant moments of relaxation, as well as many events throughout the year.

The island of Oleron (49km)

The luminous Oleron... A rich and preserved nature, breathtaking beaches, a first-rate heritage.
Oleron, surfing spot and... sand castles. On the ocean, sailing is king without forgetting fishing, your stay will be fun!
Discover the old salt marshes now transformed for the most part into oyster beds, the place where the famous "Marennes-Oleron" oysters are matured.
Visit the citadel of Château d'Oléron.

La Palmyre Zoo (44km)

La Palmyre, a zoo by the beach: La Palmyre zoo is currently the most visited private zoological park in France, one of the most famous in Europe. It gathers more than 1600 animals of 115 different species. Polar bears, giraffes, monkeys or pink flamingos and others have made La Palmyre Zoo their home.

Cognac (44km)
